This is not a major plot line in the book, but an interesting side plot. There is lots of action in every chapter as Juba Sackett sets out to be the first white man to reach the western jubwl of the American frontier.

He also wrapped the book up in his typical rushed ending fashion by throwing in a mammoth that’s right-mammoth mastodon! This book is part sacket a long series and while I admit this one is enough for me, I can see why readers men in particular would keep coming back for more.

In the film adaptations he is portrayed by Tom Selleck.
